Multinational construction giant Cemex has expanded its presence in the UK with the opening of a new training and administration facility in Coventry, aimed at streamlining internal operations and bolstering workforce development. The newly launched centre, based at the Business Innovation Centre within the University of Warwick Science Park, marks a strategic investment in employee training and infrastructure, offering a modern space dedicated to upskilling staff and fostering cross-regional collaboration.
With annual revenues of approximately £15 billion, Cemex is a major global player in the building materials industry, manufacturing and distributing cement, concrete, and aggregates to clients in more than 50 countries. The opening of this Coventry facility signals a shift toward a more efficient, flexible approach to internal training, allowing the firm to deliver in-house learning experiences without the logistical or financial constraints of relying on external venues.
“We were facing space constraints at our UK headquarters in Binley, particularly for hosting training sessions,” said Terri Charles, Head of Customer Experience at Cemex UK. “Meeting rooms were often fully booked, forcing us to seek out hotel conference rooms or other off-site venues, which wasn’t ideal, either for our employees’ experience or in terms of cost-efficiency.”
The new training facility, which also includes administrative offices, has already begun delivering measurable benefits. It has alleviated pressure on space at the company’s UK headquarters in Binley Business Park, freeing up capacity for up to 200 staff, while also providing a modern, tech-enabled environment that supports virtual collaboration with teams across Europe, the Americas, and beyond.
“Now, we have a dedicated space where our teams can come together for more focused sessions, with the flexibility to connect virtually,” Charles continued. “This is a game-changer for our internal development, helping us drive innovation and efficiency in a competitive industry.”
The Coventry facility has quickly become a key part of Cemex’s strategy to foster a more agile, interconnected workforce. Since its launch, the centre has hosted a range of comprehensive training programs, helping departments to work more collaboratively and break down traditional silos. The new setup has also allowed for the introduction of longer, more in-depth sessions—something that wasn’t always feasible when working around venue availability or limited meeting space.
Cemex’s decision to base its new facility at the Business Innovation Centre is being hailed as a vote of confidence in Coventry as a destination for global business. The city, long associated with automotive and advanced manufacturing, is increasingly attracting major players across industries looking for strategic locations and access to top-tier facilities and talent.
Emma Turner, Centre Manager at the Business Innovation Centre, welcomed Cemex’s arrival as a milestone for the site.
“We’re really pleased that a global company of Cemex’s scale and reputation has chosen to locate part of its UK operations here. It demonstrates that we can offer workspace solutions that are both flexible and sophisticated—suitable for early-stage start-ups right through to multinationals with billion-pound turnovers.”

The Business Innovation Centre, operated by the University of Warwick Science Park, has a long history of supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and enterprise development. Turner added that Cemex’s presence is already enhancing the profile of the site and strengthening its network of tenants.
“It’s great to see Cemex making the most of the facilities here. The training centre and adjoining administration office are already helping them improve operational agility and employee engagement, which is what we strive to enable.”
While the new training centre is already in full operation, Cemex officials have indicated that the facility could play a larger role in the company’s UK operations going forward. With flexible infrastructure and connectivity to international teams, the Coventry site could become a blueprint for similar initiatives in other regions.
This latest move underscores Cemex’s ongoing commitment to modernising its operations and investing in people. In a competitive construction sector increasingly defined by digital transformation and sustainability challenges, the ability to train, retain, and empower skilled employees has never been more critical.
As Cemex continues to position itself at the forefront of the industry, the Coventry training hub stands as a testament to the company’s forward-thinking approach, balancing global reach with local execution.
