BP Pulse has entered into a significant agreement with DPD to upgrade existing charging infrastructure and install new rapid (DC) charging stations across multiple UK depots. This collaboration aims to support DPD’s transition to an all-electric fleet, aligning with its 2040 net-zero target.
BP Pulse has signed an agreement to upgrade existing charging infrastructure for DPD and install new rapid (DC) charging stations across dozens of its UK depots. The first phase of installation and upgrade is underway, with 14 sites already operational and a further 16 sites planned for delivery in the new year. Strategic hub locations include key sites in Edinburgh, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool, and Middleton.
Currently, DPD has approximately 4,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in its UK fleet, representing more than 35% of its van fleet. As part of Geopost, DPD UK has set a 2040 net-zero target, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The depot infrastructure agreement builds upon the existing offer where DPD drivers currently have preferential charging rates at BP Pulse’s rapid and ultra-fast public charging network. DPD will also explore future integrated digital solutions with BP Pulse, designed to help the parcel delivery firm continue to manage its EV fleet as efficiently as possible.
Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications, and Sustainability at DPD Group UK, stated: “At DPD, we are committed to our net-zero journey, and the transition of our fleet to all-electric vehicles has been a top priority for a number of years. To reach our targets, we plan to continue to invest in EVs and new innovation, but also to partner with the very best in the sector to learn and develop new solutions at a more rapid pace. We have proved over the last six years that EVs can perform incredibly well within our operation, and this partnership will enable our depots and drivers to operate as efficiently as possible going forward.”
This collaboration underscores BP Pulse’s commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to electric vehicles and enhancing the charging infrastructure necessary for widespread EV adoption. By partnering with DPD, BP Pulse is contributing to the decarbonization of the logistics sector, which is a significant step toward achieving national sustainability goals.
The partnership between BP Pulse and DPD is expected to set a precedent for future collaborations between energy providers and logistics companies, demonstrating the critical role of robust charging infrastructure in the successful deployment of electric vehicles across various industries.
As the UK continues its journey toward net-zero emissions, initiatives like this are vital in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles and ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place to support a sustainable future.
