Global professional services powerhouse Turner & Townsend has appointed David Isherwood as the new Regional Lead for Mining in North America, signalling a strategic push to deepen its footprint and capabilities across the region’s mining industry.
Based in Toronto, Isherwood brings over 23 years of multidisciplinary experience spanning mining, energy, and infrastructure. His career includes managing large-scale capital investment programs, mine site development and remediation, complex brownfield projects, and sustainable mine closures.
Isherwood’s expertise in navigating the full lifecycle of mining projects, from early-stage planning through to operational delivery and closure, positions him as a critical asset for Turner & Townsend as it expands its mining portfolio in North America.
Before joining the firm, he held senior leadership roles at top-tier engineering and consulting firms including AtkinsRéalis, Wood, Jacobs, and AECOM, where he led market sectors focused on sustainable mining, tailings management, water, and environmental solutions. His foundation in project and portfolio management, environmental science, toxicology, and risk assessment has underpinned a career built on technically sound, commercially effective project execution.
The appointment comes as Turner & Townsend strengthens its position in a mining industry undergoing rapid transformation in response to the global energy transition. The firm has supported over 750 mining projects worldwide, delivering services in project and program management, cost and commercial management, asset optimisation, procurement, and advisory solutions.

“David’s appointment reflects our strategy to strengthen our leadership in North America and build on our track record of supporting mining clients to deliver their most complex projects,” said David Whysall, Global Managing Director for Energy and Natural Resources at Turner & Townsend.
“The global mining sector is reinventing itself to meet the demands of the clean energy future. With David’s experience in project delivery, closure, and remediation, we are well-positioned to help clients redefine how they set up and deliver major projects.”
Commenting on his new role, David Isherwood emphasised the alignment between his approach and the company’s values.
“Turner & Townsend’s focus on efficiency, performance, and risk management is exactly what the mining industry needs right now,” he said. “I look forward to helping clients structure and execute programs that deliver optimised, solution-based outcomes across the entire asset lifecycle, from planning through to responsible closure.”
As Turner & Townsend deepens its commitment to supporting the next generation of mining projects, Isherwood’s leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable, resilient, and high-performing delivery models across North America.
