A significant construction milestone has been reached at Thurnby Fields, a new £21 million luxury care home being built on Uppingham Road in Thurnby, Leicester. A roof topping ceremony recently celebrated the completion of the primary structure, underscoring strong progress toward the home’s scheduled opening later this year.
Part of the respected Cinnamon Care Collection, Thurnby Fields will bring a mix of residential, dementia and respite care to the local community — addressing a growing demand for high-quality, purpose-built senior living facilities in the region.
A New Standard in Care and Community

Once complete, Thurnby Fields will feature:
- 63 ensuite bedrooms and 10 one-bedroom luxury care suites
- Landscaped gardens designed for wellbeing and accessibility
- On-site amenities including a cinema room, hair and beauty salon, café/bar, library and lounges, plus a private dining room
These facilities are crafted to support physical comfort as well as social engagement — a growing focus across premium care communities in the UK.
Cinnamon Care Collection has built its reputation on person-centred care and hospitality-led environments, earning consistent industry recognition and placement among the UK’s top care home groups over recent years.
Community Impact and Job Creation
The development is also set to make a broader economic contribution to the area. Up to 60 full- and part-time jobs are expected to be generated once Thurnby Fields opens, spanning roles from care staff and kitchen teams to housekeeping and gardens support.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mark Shockledge, operations manager at Cinnamon Care Collection, noted that the location was chosen to help meet local demand for high-quality care services and to offer a welcoming space for residents and their families.
Jordan Connachie, managing director of principal contractor Kori Construction, described the milestone as a “proud moment” for the project team, highlighting the collaboration that has driven construction through its early phases.
On Track for Completion
Construction at Thurnby Fields has progressed steadily since contracts were signed and work began, transforming a previously brownfield site into what promises to be one of Leicester’s most modern care environments. Earlier brick-laying milestones and structural progress updates hinted at the strong build momentum that continues to this day.
Project managers and stakeholders remain confident that the home will open its doors in late 2026, complementing the region’s existing network of care communities.
The combination of thoughtful design, community integration and a broad suite of amenities reflects not just a construction project, but a long-term investment in wellbeing and quality of life for older adults in the Leicester area.
What This Means for Local Care Provision
Thurnby Fields arrives at a time when the UK continues to face pressures within its care sector, including a shortage of high-quality residential and specialist dementia care beds. Opening this 73-unit facility will both expand options for families in and around Leicester and reinforce Cinnamon’s footprint in the Midlands — a region identified by the operator as needing enhanced care capacity.
As the development moves into its final construction phases, attention will turn to fit-out, recruitment and community integration activities — essential steps before the first residents move in and everyday operations begin.
