A Major Manufacturing Investment
GE Appliances is making a major commitment to US manufacturing with a $1 billion investment in its Appliance Park campus in Louisville, Kentucky.
The investment will expand and modernise production across Buildings 1, 2 and 5, creating what the company says will be America’s largest home appliance manufacturing site.
The plans are designed to strengthen Appliance Park as a long term manufacturing hub while bringing additional production back to the United States.
Dryer Production Returns To Kentucky
One of the biggest elements of the GE Appliances manufacturing investment will see high output dryer production move from Mexico to Louisville.
More than $400 million will be invested in transforming Building 5 into a new high output dryer manufacturing operation.
Production is expected to begin in late 2027, following an estimated nine to 12 month transformation of the building.
The move represents a significant expansion of GE Appliances’ laundry manufacturing capabilities in Kentucky.
Further Investment Across Appliance Park
The company’s plans extend beyond Building 5.
Around $112 million will be invested in Building 1, bringing new equipment to the facility and redesigning existing washer and dryer platforms.
GE Appliances will also continue its previously announced $490 million investment in Building 2. This facility is being developed to manufacture front load washing machines and combination washer dryers, with production expected to begin in 2027.
Together, these projects will reshape the company’s laundry manufacturing operations at Appliance Park.
Supporting 4,700 Production Jobs
The investment is also expected to help secure approximately 4,700 production jobs at Appliance Park once the new facility is fully implemented.
Importantly, GE Appliances says employees will remain on the payroll throughout the Building 5 transition, with no layoffs associated with the retooling.
Employees will also have opportunities to move into new and expanded manufacturing roles as production increases across the campus.
This provides an important employment boost alongside the wider investment in production technology and facilities.
Strengthening American Manufacturing
The announcement forms part of GE Appliances’ broader commitment to manufacturing in the United States.
The company says it has committed $6.5 billion to US manufacturing since 2016, including more than $3.5 billion already invested in its US operations.
A further $3 billion was announced in 2025 for investment over the following five years.
The latest Louisville plans therefore represent another significant step in the company’s strategy to expand and modernise its American manufacturing footprint.
Bringing Production Closer Together
According to GE Appliances, bringing laundry and dishwasher manufacturing together at Appliance Park will create closer connections between the teams responsible for designing, engineering and manufacturing its products.
The company believes this approach can help improve collaboration, accelerate innovation and allow its manufacturing operations to respond more quickly to changing consumer needs.
For Louisville, the investment further reinforces the importance of Appliance Park to the local economy and to the company’s wider US manufacturing network.
A New Chapter For Appliance Park
Building 5 is currently home to refrigeration production, which is expected to conclude in Louisville in early 2027 before the facility begins its transformation into a dryer manufacturing operation.
Once completed, the expanded campus will bring together additional production capacity, modernised facilities and thousands of manufacturing roles.
The GE Appliances manufacturing investment demonstrates the continuing importance of large scale domestic production, while the return of dryer manufacturing from Mexico adds a significant reshoring element to the plans.
With work continuing across multiple buildings, Appliance Park is set to enter a new phase of manufacturing growth from 2027 onwards.
