Major Manufacturing Expansion
Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM) is investing $200 million in a new advanced manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas, in a major expansion that is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs by 2030.
The new facility will be located at Brooks City Base and is planned to cover one million square feet, creating a substantial increase in IEM’s manufacturing capacity. The project is set to focus on power distribution and control equipment, serving a range of industries including data centres, hospitals, energy companies and other large industrial operations.
The scale of the project makes it a significant manufacturing investment for the San Antonio region, while also highlighting the growing importance of domestic production for critical electrical infrastructure.
Meeting Demand for Electrical Infrastructure
IEM manufactures a range of electrical equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, remote power panels and power distribution systems. These products play an important role in helping major facilities manage and distribute electricity safely and efficiently.
The company’s expansion comes as demand for electrical infrastructure continues to grow. Data centres and other power intensive facilities require increasingly sophisticated electrical systems, creating opportunities for manufacturers supplying the equipment needed to support new developments.
By establishing a much larger manufacturing footprint in San Antonio, IEM will be positioned to increase production and support customers across several major industries.
Thousands of New Jobs
One of the most significant aspects of the project is its potential impact on employment. IEM expects the expansion to create up to 3,000 jobs by 2030, providing new opportunities for workers in manufacturing, engineering, operations and related areas.
The project is also receiving public support. IEM has been awarded a $3.36 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant linked to 448 of the planned positions.
The combination of private investment and public support demonstrates the wider economic importance being placed on expanding advanced manufacturing capacity and creating new employment opportunities.
Strengthening San Antonio’s Industrial Base
The new facility is expected to contribute to the wider industrial ecosystem in San Antonio, with a large manufacturing operation supporting demand for suppliers, services and skilled workers.
Major manufacturing projects can have an impact well beyond the factory itself. New facilities can create opportunities for local businesses while strengthening the supply chains that support production and distribution.
For San Antonio, the IEM project therefore represents both an individual company expansion and a wider investment in the region’s industrial capabilities.
Manufacturing Investment for the Future
IEM’s decision to commit $200 million to the project reflects the company’s plans to expand its ability to serve a growing market for electrical infrastructure.
The investment also underlines how manufacturing remains closely connected to some of the fastest growing areas of the economy. From data centres and healthcare facilities to energy and industrial operations, reliable power infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as businesses expand and facilities become more sophisticated.
For manufacturers such as IEM, increased demand creates an opportunity to invest in new facilities, increase production and develop their workforce.
A Positive Signal for US Manufacturing
With $200 million committed to a new one million square foot facility and plans for up to 3,000 jobs, IEM’s San Antonio expansion represents a significant development for US manufacturing.
The project combines business expansion with job creation and increased production capacity, while supporting industries that rely on sophisticated electrical infrastructure.
As construction and development progress, the facility is set to become an important part of IEM’s operations and a notable addition to San Antonio’s manufacturing landscape.
The announcement provides a positive example of how manufacturing investment can support companies as they respond to changing market demand, while also creating opportunities for workers and the wider regional economy.
