Business Enquirer speaks with May Ling Chun, Direc Business Enquirer speaks with May Ling Chun, Director of the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau, about connectivity, culinary identity, and building a smarter, more sustainable destination.

There are few places in the world where a traveler can cross an international border on foot, without a checkpoint, and find themselves in an entirely different culture, language, and cuisine by lunchtime. St. Maarten/Saint-Martin has built its global identity around exactly that duality, and according to May-Ling Chun, it remains the single biggest differentiator in an increasingly crowded Caribbean market.

As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply emb As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply embedded in the way businesses operate, customer experience is entering a new phase. Personalisation is no longer simply about using a customer’s name, remembering a previous purchase or recommending a product based on browsing history. Increasingly, AI is allowing brands to understand behaviour in real time, anticipate needs and shape interactions around individual customers.

For businesses, the opportunity is significant. AI can process vast amounts of information, identify patterns and respond at a speed that would be impossible to achieve through human teams alone. But as personalisation becomes more sophisticated, expectations are changing too. Customers want experiences that feel relevant and convenient, without feeling watched, manipulated or pushed towards decisions they have not made for themselves.

The challenge for businesses in 2026 is therefore not simply how much AI they can introduce, but how intelligently and responsibly they use it.

Traditional personalisation has largely been built around what a customer has already done. A previous purchase might trigger a recommendation, while browsing activity might influence the content or offers shown next. AI is beginning to move this towards something more dynamic.

When Dr Mukesh Kumar took the helm of @vulcanmozam When Dr Mukesh Kumar took the helm of @vulcanmozambique in 2022, the Moatize coal mine in Tete province had been designed, built, and equipped for 52 million tonnes of annual production yet had never managed more than roughly 22 million tonnes in over a decade of operation. Three years later, under Kumar’s leadership, that figure has more than doubled. The story of how it happened, he told Business Enquirer, comes down to three fundamental failures the previous operator never solved and the discipline required to fix them without slowing down.

What Was Actually Broken

“Right from day one, when the original company designed this plant, they designed it for 52 million tonnes of mining,” Kumar explained. “This was one of the most modern plants all the machinery, equipment, and human resources were there for 52 million tonnes but they were operating at less than half of that capacity. Their fixed costs went very, very high.”

The core problem, he said, was logistics. Moatize’s coal had to travel roughly 1,000 kilometres by rail to Nacala port, and the original evacuation infrastructure simply could not keep pace. “The port available was a shallow port not having the depth to bring in vessels larger than 35,000 to 40,000 tonnes. For a plant of that scale, you require Capesize and Panamax vessels.” Even after a dedicated rail line was commissioned in 2017, turnaround times between the mine and the port stretched to 130–140 hours, a bottleneck that choked the entire operation.

Discover how Dr Mukesh Kumar tackled years of underperformance at Mozambique’s Moatize coal mine, overcoming major rail and port bottlenecks to more than double production under Vulcan International’s leadership.

Global industry is undergoing a fundamental transf Global industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Energy transition, resource security, changing demand patterns and technological innovation are reshaping commodities and energy markets, creating an environment in which traditional assumptions about supply, consumption and investment are being reassessed.

Throughout 2026, organisations across industrial sectors will continue navigating the sometimes competing priorities of resilience, sustainability, affordability and efficiency. Energy remains fundamental to almost every part of economic activity, while commodities underpin industries ranging from infrastructure and manufacturing to technology, transport and consumer goods.

Understanding how these markets are evolving will therefore be important far beyond the traditional energy and resources sectors. The businesses best positioned for the years ahead will be those capable of adapting to changing market conditions, investing intelligently in technology and recognising the growing strategic importance of secure and responsible access to resources.

The global economy is entering another period of s The global economy is entering another period of significant transformation. Shifting alliances, changing trade relationships, technological competition and evolving national priorities are reshaping the environment in which international businesses operate.

Globalisation continues to connect economies, organisations and consumers, but the rules governing international commerce have become considerably more complicated. In 2026, commercial decisions will increasingly intersect with geopolitical developments, influencing everything from supply chains and investment strategies to technology adoption and market expansion.

For business leaders, understanding this wider environment is becoming a strategic necessity. Commercial performance remains essential, but success in international markets will also depend on the ability to anticipate disruption, understand geopolitical risk and create organisations capable of adapting when established assumptions change.

A changing global trade landscape

For much of the modern era, international supply chains were designed primarily around efficiency and cost. Businesses expanded across borders to access larger markets, specialist expertise and lower production costs, creating complex networks connecting manufacturers, suppliers and customers around the world.

Leadership has never been entirely constrained by Leadership has never been entirely constrained by geography, but the increasingly connected nature of modern business has fundamentally changed what it means to lead internationally. Organisations are entering new markets, managing workforces spread across continents and building partnerships that cross cultural, regulatory and economic boundaries.

Technology has made international communication easier than at any point in history, yet connectivity alone does not guarantee effective collaboration. Against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, changing regulation and evolving customer expectations, global leadership in 2026 will depend increasingly on an ability to bring people together around a shared purpose.

The leaders who stand out will therefore be those capable of combining strategic thinking with cultural intelligence, digital confidence and adaptability. International expansion can no longer be viewed simply as a process of entering new markets. Sustainable growth requires a deeper understanding of the people, expectations and working cultures within them.

The debate around the global energy transition oft The debate around the global energy transition often feels like a war of absolutes. Electrify everything. Hydrogen is the future. Fossil fuels must go. But step into a conversation with Dennis Ocal, CEO of @europumpint, the Milan headquartered energy infrastructure company with over three decades in the fueling industry, and a far more pragmatic picture emerges.

“The policy narrative in Europe is heavily focused on electrification and hydrogen,” Ocal says, leaning into the kind of bluntness that only comes from 30 years of watching grand promises meet hard infrastructure realities. “But the electrical grids are not ready. The charging stations are not ready. And hundreds of millions of internal combustion engines are already on the road today.”

The article explores the realities of the global energy transition, looking at the challenges facing electrification and charging infrastructure, the continued role of existing energy systems and why a practical approach may be needed as the industry evolves.

Predicting what comes next has always been one of Predicting what comes next has always been one of business’s most valuable and most difficult capabilities. Organisations have traditionally relied on historical performance, market research, consumer surveys and expert analysis to anticipate changes in demand and guide strategic decisions. Artificial intelligence is now beginning to reshape that process, bringing unprecedented speed and analytical capability to market forecasting.

In 2026, AI powered forecasting is set to become an increasingly important tool for organisations attempting to navigate uncertainty. Rather than simply examining what has already happened, advanced systems can analyse enormous quantities of information to identify emerging patterns, evaluate potential scenarios and provide earlier indications of where markets may be heading.

As consumer behaviour becomes more dynamic and businesses encounter increasingly complex sources of data, the ability to interpret information rapidly represents a significant competitive advantage. The organisations that integrate artificial intelligence successfully will have an opportunity not simply to react to market developments faster, but potentially to recognise them before competitors do.

For many organisations, the rapid rise of artificial intelligence has created an urgent question: how quickly can it be deployed? For @ibm Omar Syed, Lead Client Partner, SAP Leader UK&I at IBM Consulting, the more important question comes first: is the business genuinely ready for it?

In conversation with Business Enquirer journalist Anne Marie Haggerty, Syed explored how IBM’s long-standing relationship with @pepsico has demonstrated that enterprise AI does not begin with algorithms, agents or automation. Instead, it starts with the less glamorous but far more important foundations of clean data, harmonised processes and a technology environment capable of supporting intelligence at scale.

Through years of transformation, IBM and PepsiCo have worked to turn a complex, fragmented technology estate into a connected global platform, creating the conditions for AI to move beyond isolated pilots and become an increasingly integrated part of everyday business operations.

The electric vehicle and mobility sector is enteri The electric vehicle and mobility sector is entering a new phase of maturity. What was once defined by bold promises, early-stage experimentation and rapid valuation growth has now shifted into a more disciplined environment shaped by infrastructure readiness, profitability pressure and long-term scalability. For start-ups operating within this space, the challenge is no longer simply innovation. It is execution at scale in an increasingly competitive global market.

Electric mobility is no longer a niche category or a future-facing concept. It is becoming a core pillar of global transport strategy, industrial policy and urban planning. Governments continue to push decarbonisation targets, consumers are becoming more accustomed to electric drivetrains, and investors are increasingly focused on which companies can move beyond prototypes and pilot schemes into sustainable commercial operations.

In this environment, the most interesting start-ups are not necessarily those making the loudest claims. They are the ones quietly solving some of the most complex problems in energy storage, charging infrastructure, software integration and next-generation vehicle design. Across regions including Europe, North America and parts of Asia, a new wave of mobility-focused companies is beginning to define what the next decade of transport will look like.

The online gambling content industry has spent the The online gambling content industry has spent the better part of a decade optimising for volume, more titles, faster releases, cheaper production. Carl Wiggman CEO of @print_studios_ltd, speaking with Business Enquirer’s Zaakira Ibrahim, argues that this race has created an opening for studios willing to do the opposite.

Print Studios, the outfit Wiggman leads as CEO, has built its identity around craftsmanship rather than output, a stance that shapes everything from how it uses artificial intelligence to how many games it produces.

An Industry That Can No Longer Hide

Wiggman opened by describing a fundamental shift in how gambling studios operate in public. Where the industry once ran on low transparency, he said, it now exists under near-constant visibility, and that means a studio’s internal culture and its external product can no longer drift apart.

He pointed to three studios as case studies in identity. No Limit City, he noted, projects its game culture directly through its social presence. Games Global, by contrast, has cultivated something closer to a corporate Formula One-style brand. Shady Lady, meanwhile, operates behind an entirely digital persona. For Wiggman, the lesson is the same in each case: culture and product have to match, because audiences now see both.
